HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA K.P.Vivekananda, general secretary Soma Bharath Kumar, and others met the Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj on Wednesday and formally complained against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for posting a forged Osmania University circular in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the poll-bound State.
The BRS in its complaint said that the forged Notice allegedly dated May 12, 2023, was being circulated and posted by Revanth Reddy falsely attributed to the previous BRS Government, and contained misleading information regarding the closure of university hostels and mess facilities due to a shortage of electricity and water.
The original notice dated May 12, 2023, disclosed that the University declared summer vacation to the students and hence the Mess facility to the P.G. boarders would be closed.
“The Congress party has engaged in a blatant distortion of facts and the dissemination of false information to manipulate voters and gain an unfair advantage in the electoral process. It is submitted that, recently, there have been protests by the boarders of Osmania University hostels regarding the lack of water and electricity in the hostels. The protests are reported in the newspapers and media widely,” the BRS said in its complaint.
The BRS said that the Congress party, to blame the main opposition party in the elections created a false notice with the date May 12, 2023, purportedly issued by the O.U Authorities during the previous BRS Government, to mislead the public and distort the truth regarding the demands and protests made by the students about closure of the hostels this year due to shortage of water and electricity cuts.
“In an attempt to divert the attention from the closure of hostels in Osmania University and to blame the previous BRS Government, the fabricated notice dated May 12, 2023, is posted by A.Revanth Reddy to state that previous year also the same situation was there and therefore the present Government ruled by Congress Party could not be singled out”, the complaint reads.
The BRS further mentioned that the forged circular was a blatant attempt to cover up the failure to address the genuine concerns of electricity and water shortage in the university hostels. “The Congress party resorted to distorting facts and creating a false notification.
The fabricated notification circulated by the Congress Party State president A.Revanth Reddy falsely claimed that the closure of hostels and messes was due to a severe shortage of water and electricity, similar to the situation portrayed in the original BRS Government notice, the BRS pointed out.
This intentional act of misinformation and distortion of facts by the TPCC President was a clear violation of ethical standards and a breach of trust with the public. The Congress party had engaged in a deceptive campaign aimed at influencing public opinion and gaining political mileage. Such misleading tactics not only undermine the credibility of the democratic process but also betray the trust of the electorate, BRS said.
Such unethical practices must be exposed and addressed to uphold the integrity of the electoral system and ensure transparency in governance, therefore, we urge the Election Commission to take immediate and strict action against the Congress party for their violation of the Model Code of Conduct, the complaint said.
The dissemination of false information manipulation of facts and forging of signatures of a government employee to influence voters was a serious offense that must be addressed promptly to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. We request the Election Commission to investigate this matter thoroughly and hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions, the BRS said.
“It is crucial to ensure that those who engage in such unethical practices face appropriate consequences to maintain the sanctity of elections and uphold the democratic values of our nation. Therefore, we request the Commission to arbitrate to apply its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution and initiate immediate action against the Chief Minister and TPCC President A. Revanth Reddy by law.
Meanwhile, BRSV State general secretary Chatari Dasarath along with others also submitted another complaint at the Osmania University campus police station against the Chief Minister. They urged the police to book the CM for forgery and other related sections.
