HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday issued a notice to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for allegedly making derogatory remarks against BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
The notice to Revanth Reddy was issued following a complaint lodged by BRS General Secretary Prof. M. Sreenivas Reddy on May 5. In his complaint, Sreenivas Reddy alleged that Revanth Reddy had been using "demeaning, personal, derogatory, and vulgar language" while criticising KCR during public meetings, in violation of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He urged the ECI to take action against Revanth Reddy, also the Star Campaigner for the Indian National Congress (INC).
The ECI asked Revanth Reddy to submit his explanation or respond to the complaint within 48 hours. The notice, issued by Telangana's Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj, warned that if Revanth Reddy failed to respond within the given time, it would be presumed that he had nothing to say in the matter, and the ECI would take appropriate action based on the established laws for violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
